Hi Simon, It's been years since we last made contact and in fact I have just noticed that I have a bad link on my old website to Spire Weather! I have made fresh attempts at updating my website firstly with Saratoga which for me was too much of a challenge getting the various items to display correctly. I then discovered Meteotemplates and I am well impressed with this. I am listed on the userMap as Erith Weather (I live in Erith rather than Belvedere as mentioned). I am now at the stage of re-reading the Wiki as I seem to have too much being displayed causing a very slow load. The option that I totally failed to initially understand was the idea of the menuBlock and this will be my next project. Congratulations on what you have put together - it really look so professional.

Hi Bob, good to hear from you again!
Yes we moved from Salisbury to Wimborne in Dorset in December 2015, when SpireWeather became WessexWeather.
Thanks for your comments. I will have a look at your site.
Best wishes,
Simon

Hello

I have kept manual daily weather records here in Coombe Bissett since 1987 and occasionally when I have to go away I get questionable readings from my deputy!
Would you kindly let me have the maximum temp on Sunday 29 July and the overnight minimum on Sunday night 29/30 for salisbury. These were recorded as 18.3c and 18.4c a range of only 0.1c which is of course possible but I would like it verified.
thank you in advance for your help,
regards
Richard Allen

Hi Richard,
My station has been situated near Wimborne, Dorset since December 2015, so my data might not be as valuable to you.
However, my maximum on 29th July 2018 was 18.3°C at 14:20. My minimum that night was 17°C at 6:15am in the 30th, so it was indeed a very mild night with little temperature variation.
Hope that helps,
Simon (WessexWeather)

hi i am from germany and want to start a weather website like you..... i wonder if i should start with netatmo or davis vantage vue or the pro can you help me thx
Replied on: 06:30 29-03-2018

Hi, for simplicity I would use Netatmo, and for accuracy the Davis Vantage Pro. I use the Vantage Vue which is a good compromise between simplicity, accuracy and cost. Good luck! Regards, Simon

Hello, you have to be using Meteobridge to process your station data and webcam image, then adapt the overlay to suit your needs and to fit your own webcam image dimensions. Have a look here: -

http://www.meteobridge.com/wiki/index.php/Weather_Cam_Image_Handling
http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/

It took several days’ work and a lot of trial and error to get things working just right! Unfortunately due to time constraints I will be unable to help you further.

Kind regards,

Simon (WessexWeather)

Use Meteotemplate, i have a problem though with the webcam 2.0 plugin, it saves the image in the folder images with size 0 kb. Obviously you do not see anything, you know how to solve this problem?
Thank you.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please, let me know the computed PEV for each countryin your website (http://www.wessexweather.net/meteotemplate/plugins/countryClimate/index.php) is based on which method? Is that Penman-Montieth Method?
Is the computed PEV values for each country related to the average of whole country or just one specific location?

I do not know myself but I had a word with the developer who assumes the ET values were calculated using the Penman-Monteith method, but I cannot be certain.

The values are country averages, and the data source was different for each country. He can’t unfortunately remember the source he used for the Dominican Republic.

Sorry this might not be as helpful as you would have hoped.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am looking forward to find potentioal evapotranspiration for Dominican Republic (DR). I found out in your website.
I have two questions. First, since, I am looking for Evapotranspiration for the specific locations in DR please, let me know it is available for you to provide me. Second, I also need the evapotranspiration data for the years of 2013,2014, 2015, and 2016. Please, let me know those are available.
I appreciate your kindness. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Simon
Thanks for your reply but have checked again and the wind speed is still not working correctly. Further if you click on the graph button below the gauge it shows the wind speed and gusts and the wind speed is not shown above 5 mph and clearly everywhere has been much more windier than that!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit 20/5/17

Hi Bob, just to let you know that the anemometer has now been mounted onto the chimney so hopefully wind speeds will be more accurate. However rainfall (which should be recorded at 1m) and temperature (at 2m) might be less so. There is not a lot I can do about this at the moment. Regards.

Hi Bob,
This is a suburban station in a sheltered environment I'm afraid, although I am shortly moving the anemometer onto the roof where wind speeds will be more accurate. The downside to this is that rainfall and temperature, which should be measured closer to the ground, will be less accurate! I am afraid this is one of the problems with integrated sensors like the Davis Vantage Vue I am using. If you want 100% accurate data, your only option is to use official Met Office stations that have much more space to play with than I do!!!!!!!!!!!!

The wind speed guage has not been working for some time. Is it possible to get it up and running again soon?
Thanks

Hi Bob, what address are you using, as all the gauges are working fine for me?
Make sure you are using the correct address - the gauges are visible in a block on the homepage www.wessexweather.net or on their own page at http://www.wessexweather.net/meteotemplate/plugins/steelSeries/index.php

Hi - would it poss to call me or email me a number to call you - I'm just writing up a story for the paper on the thunderstorm and see from your tweets that it was a record amount of rain that fell in Salisbury? Many thanks, Elizabeth

This is an excellent website - really informative!
It looks as if we've had some rain every day in Salisbury since Dec 8th, so 40 days of rain (& without even St Swithun's day to kick it off!). I wonder if this is any sort of a record for continuous days of rain here?
Also wondering whether it will rain today (Jan 17th) or whether we have finally reached a break in the wet run!
Keep up the good work!

Margaret

Hi Margaret,
Many thanks for your kind comments about the website. 40 consecutive days with rain is indeed a SpireWeather record (since 2009) but I cannot confirm whether or not it is an official record but it certainly feels like it! Some of the 0.2mm recordings were probably from heavy overnight dew though, which still counts as precipitation. Today has indeed provided a brief respite from the deluge but even this afternoon there are some heavy showers around.
Kind regards,
Simon (SpireWeather)

I would really appreciate your help. I keep a note of rainfall in Salisbury but when I look at my comparison with Amesbury for November this year I seem to have made a mistake. If you have the information would you let me know how many mm of rain we had in Salisbury for the week commencing 18th November, and in particular how much we had on 23rd and 24th November.

I really enjoy your site.

Many thanks
Celia

Hi Celia, Happy New Year!
I'm glad you enjoy SpireWeather & I'd be delighted to help. The rainfall records for Laverstock in the week commencing 18th November are as follows: -

20th 4.2mm
21st 1.2mm
22nd 0.2mm
23rd 0.2mm
24th 0.0mm
Hope that helps,
Simon (SpireWeather)

hello, i just wanna say that this is a really good website i always check the GFS Ensembles runs on here dont really check them anywhere else i wanna know what your thinking about this coming winter cold or mild i reckon this is gonna lead to a very cold winter yet again which it would be good
Replied on: 16:23 21-11-2013

Hi Matthew,
Thanks, I'm glad you find the website useful! I always shy away from giving long range forecasts as the weather can change within the space of a week in the UK which makes seasonal forecasts very difficult. However, forget what you read in the press, as there are currently no signs as yet of anything beyond an average winter. Watch the stratosphere though as changes there might liven things up! I have a separate page for that...
